On a distant island a long time ago, the story of Gormiti begins...
The magnificent Island of Gorm was once inhabited by peaceful, nature-loving people. They lived peacefully under the guidance of The Old Sage, keeper of secrets and magic, in their village at the foot of Fire Mountain, a massive, dormant volcano that had never threatened the peaceful island... until now.
One day Fire Mountain showed its fierce nature by exploding through the earth and into the air. The once green and lush land transformed into a black, burnt, desolate waste area. From the ashes rose strange creatures, molded from the heat of the lava and led by Magmion, lord of Magma. These creatures of fire were called the lords of Magma and Magmion craved the souls of the defenseless Gormiti.
The prediction was coming true. "From the deep, dangerous creatures were rising. They would sweep the land, the good would then return and battle a fate worse than extinction."
So the story begins. This game, newly imported from Europe, is a battle for domination of the land sea, and air, by creatures who have been divided into five elemental armies: Earth, Forest, Sea, Air and Fire. Each creature comes with a card describing their abilities, and gameplay is as simple as adding the number from the card to the number on your creature's foot. Your battles can also be enhanced by adding playsets, which feature moving parts, traps and more, to aid you in your attack and defense. Many of the figures come blind-packed, further enhancing the collectibility of this line.
Each Starter Pack comes with 5 exclusive Volcano Lava Figures, 5 Trading Cards, 1 DVD, 1 Island of Gorm Map and a Gormiti Comic Book.

My 5 year old has become obsessed with this collection. The great thing about it is he's learning while he plays because you have to add the cards and corresponding numbers on the feet of the characters. He's memorized most but now can rattle almost any addition out as if he's answering flash cards which is what I remember doing long ago. However, this is much more fun for him. He's actually enjoying the adding up of numbers as much as collecting and pretending. A great toy to get kids to start adding in their heads.

This was for my 6-year old son. He enjoys playing and collecteing these little gormiti figures. Apparently there are various tribes inspired by the different forces of nature. This one happens to be the Volcano tribe. The colorful figurines are very durable with strange, imaginative features and details. He enjoys devising different battle scenarios and storylines. Basically, I see him clashing the different gormiti figures together, then declaring a victor. As long as it encourages healthy, imaginative play, I'm well pleased.

The only problem is that everything comes out overseas first, so he has to wait a while to spend his allowance, or spend quite a bit on shiipping.
